Ethnographically, it belongs to the Eastern Auk\u0161taitija. The area of \u200b\u200bUtena District Municipality is 1229 km\u00b2. (occupies 1.9 percent of the territory of Lithuania). There are more than 185 lakes and ponds of various sizes and shapes in the municipality. There are 8 towns in the district &#8211; Daugailiai, Kukti\u0161k\u0117s, Leli\u016bnai, Salduti\u0161kis, Sudeikiai, Tauragnai, U\u017epaliai and Vy\u017euonas, 592 villages.<\/p><p>Utena District Municipality was established in 1995. Utena District Municipality is divided into 9 seni\u016bnias: Daugailiai, Kukti\u0161k\u0117s, Leli\u016bnai, Salduti\u0161kis, Sudeikiai, Vy\u017euonas, Tauragnai, Utena, U\u017epaliai. 2009.
